discipleship_bible_reading_planMany people set out to read the entire bible in a year and fail. This can be one of the most discouraging things in your walk with the Lord. That is why the Navigators published the plan called Discipleship Bible Reading Plan.  The Navigators are a ministry that is based inColorado Springs.  They specialize in discipleship. They go out into urban neighborhoods, areas near military bases, youth camps, and college campuses to try touch the lives of people of all ages.  They also focus on one-on-one discipleship and small-group discipleship or bible studies.  Their plan called the Discipleship Bible Reading Plan was written for anyone who needs an easy plan to read the bible in a year.

John Piper is a well-known Christian author.  He has brought many people to Christ through his writing.  He wrote a blog about the Discipleship Bible Reading Plan and explained why he recommended it. He explained that unlike most bible plans, it recognizes that people will have days when they don’t get the opportunity to read their bible and catch up on their plan.  This plan gives five days a month to catch-up on your reading.  It’s easy to start out the New Year with the best intentions of sticking to a bible-reading plan, and sometimes people will stick to it for a little while. But eventually, you get busy with something and you skip a couple days in a row. This eventually leads to giving up, because its gets to be September and you’re still in Genesis. This bible reading makes it easy to stick to throughout the whole year without quitting.

In my research for a discipleship Bible reading plan, I was searching through lots and lots of books that claim they are guaranteed to work, that you will stick to them, etc. Then, I stumbled upon an article called “Read the Entire Bible With the Discipleship Bible Reading Plan.” I found a plan that is more interesting than others because it is small - you print it out and keep it with your bible - and interesting.  This plan does not just divide the bible in to 365 pieces and assign one to each day. Instead, the creators of this plan linked four different places in the bible for each day, making sure that they connect in some way to teach one lesson each day, only it is one that connects throughout the bible.

When reading scripture, be sure to have an open mind to whatever God wants to teach you that day. It is important that you try to become Christ-like in all of your actions and allow God to guide you to whatever passages from the Bible that you would be interested in.
