Many people love the way that Hawaiian sarongs look on models in magazines or pictures online, but when they go to buy them themselves, they look and fit completely differently.  Thats because most models that advertise sarongs are really wearing Hawaiian sarong dresses. A regular sarong that you might find in a store would be a simple sheet of fabric with some fringe on one of the edges.  You tie it yourself and it is not fitted to your shape. Hawaiian sarong dresses are so different because they are a completely separate thing. 

Most people buy sarongs for the sole purpose of wearing them as a bathing suit cover-up. They can be worn as a skirt, shoulder wrap, halter dress, sheath, bathing suit cover-up... The list goes on and on.
